Cerium was named after an astroid named Ceres. It was discovered about two years before the element.
Cerium can effect your lungs and liver if you inhale it.
It is used to stain glass and prevent browning in glass.

Cerium is actually being researched right now. Scientist are searching for a way to use Cerium as fuel by reacting it with different temperatures.
